Description

A pair of cottages dating from around 1800, with a later extension and a 20th-century alteration. The cottages are constructed of squared limestone with a brick eaves course, and include a brick outbuilding attached to number 43. The roof is pantiled, with brick stacks. The front of the cottages has two storeys and four windows. Number 42, on the left, has a partially-glazed 20th-century door and 2-light, 24-pane horizontal sliding sashes throughout. Number 43 has a panelled door and 2-light 24-pane casements to the ground floor, with a 2-light casement containing large panes on the first floor to the right. All windows have painted stone sills. The ground-floor openings have painted wedge lintels, while the first-floor windows are topped with painted timber lintels. The rear of the cottages features a lean-to outbuilding attached to number 43, and a single-storey outshut with a catslide roof attached to number 42. The group value of the cottages lies in their contribution to the character of the village street.
