Description
41 Bargate is a mid-18th century house with notable character. It is built of uncoursed rubble faced with painted brick and has a Welsh slate roof with brick stacks. The house stands three storeys tall and features four windows arranged in a pattern of three and one. The left side has one large window on the second storey and none on the top storey. The windows are hung sashes with glazing bars and have rendered lintels. There is a new bow window on the left side of the ground floor. The building has a high stone plinth and a 19th-century door set in a good 18th-century stone case, which includes a moulded modillion pediment on brackets and a traceried fanlight. The front is small and terraced to accommodate the slope of the hill, with simple iron railings and a gate. This house is part of a group that includes numbers 41 to 47 (odd) and 51 to 57 (odd), as well as the premises occupied by the Richmond Operatic Society.
