Description
47 and 51 Bargate are a pair of cottages built between the 18th and 19th centuries. They are constructed from rubble and feature two storeys with a roughcast finish. The stone slate roof has kneelers, and there are two rendered stacks and one brick stack.
No 47 has three windows, including a modern casement with a brick arch. The former No 49 features a hung sash window with glazing bars and a wooden lintel. No 51 has a modern oriel window on each floor and a contemporary door. The ground floor of No 47 includes a small rectangular oriel in an old opening, along with a six-panel door that has two glass panels. The former No 49 has a hung sash window with glazing bars and a brick arch, while No 51 has a plain door.
These buildings, along with Nos 41 to 47 and Nos 51 to 57, as well as the premises occupied by the Richmond Operatic Society, form a cohesive group.
