Lodge, now private house. Mid - late C18 with mid C19 additions. For John or William Aislabie of Studley Royal House. Ashlar and brick, rendered; wrought-iron lamp bracket, Westmorland slate roof. Single-storey, 2-bay plan in Gothick style, with C19 bay added to rear, and 2 wings formed by probably original single-storey outbuildings. Leaded windows throughout. Front to drive has a deep portico supported on 6 yew tree trunks. Board door left, under Gothic arch with architrave. Central bay window of 4 lights with stone mullions. Pyramidal roof with stack to right. Rear - additional bay with door to right, 4-pane sash to left. Left return: casement window in Gothic arch. Right return: centre - 2-light stone- mullion window projects slightly and has a triangular stone pediment above. Interior: 2 small front rooms with windows to gate and drive. Lamp bracket - attached to stonework above the bay window and projects under the deep eaves formed by the portico at this point. Decorated with C- and S-scrolls, with a square frame to hold a large lantern. 2 single-storey 2-bay wings containing outbuildings: board doors and small-paned windows, ramped wall to gables, lean-to roofs. The lodge stands close to the gates (qv) at the north end of the long drive through Studley Royal Park. Similar in style to the West Lodge, Allerton Park, Allerton Mauleverer (qv).
