Walled Garden And Avenue House With Gates, Bothey And Lean To Glasshouses Approximately 50 Metres To South West Of Hollin Hall

The walled garden and Avenue House, along with gates, bothy, and lean-to glasshouses, are located approximately 50 meters southwest of Hollin Hall. They date from the mid-18th century and 19th century. The structure features coursed squared limestone and brick in English bond, with a stone slate roof and wrought and cast iron elements.

The garden wall includes a heated north wall made of limestone lined with brick, which has pantile coping and retains flues and two stoke-holes on the north face. The east, west, and south walls are made of brick with ashlar coping and have two gates with cambered arches in headers on the east and west sides. The west gates are constructed of planks, while the east gates, facing the Hall, are made of wrought iron with plain bars and rails, featuring C-scroll decoration.

The gardener's house and bothy are situated at the center and west end of the north garden wall. The house is two stories with two bays and an added bay to the east. It has a 19th-century six-panel door and small square windows, with end stacks. The rear of the house features larger 16-pane sash windows with 12-pane sashes above. The bothy is a single-story limestone lean-to range, which has had its pantile roof replaced with corrugated asbestos. It consists of approximately five bays, with two plank doors and side-sliding sashes that have glazing bars, along with two lean-to glasshouses on the south side of the garden. These glasshouses are late 19th century, featuring elaborate cast-iron roof structures and ventilation systems.
