Description
Auld Hall is a farmhouse located on Halton West Main Street, dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from slobbered, squared rubble with stone dressing and has a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high and features three bays. The central bay is flanked by two projecting wings: the left wing is from the 18th century and has a beam to the roof with a gable facing the road, while the right wing has a continuous outshut.
The entrance is situated to the right of the centre and has a chamfered surround with a segmental pointed lintel, leading to a four-panel door, of which the upper two panels are glazed. To the left of the entrance, there is a ground floor three-light chamfered window with cavetto mullions, and above it, a five-light window, although two of the left-hand lights are now blocked. The left-hand wing features a ground floor window from around 1970 and upper floor two-light chamfered windows with cavetto mullions. The right-hand wing has three-light chamfered windows with cavetto mullions on both storeys. All windows have 20th-century casements. The building has gable end ridge stacks. Although the interior is not accessible, it is reputed to contain a fireplace with stone voussoirs in the central room.
