Description

The Stores is a building that was originally two cottages and a barn, now serving as a house and office. It dates from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is built of slobbered rubble brought to course, with stone dressings and a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and four bays.

The left-hand entrance features a plain surround and a 20th-century door. The central entrance has a chamfered lintel and an early 20th-century door. The right-hand entrance has a chamfered surround and a segmental pointed lintel, with a plank door. On the ground floor, there are four windows: a former four-light chamfered mullioned window that has been reduced to a two-light with only the central mullion remaining, a mid-19th-century window with a plain surround and a 1.2 pane fixed light, a three-light chamfered mullioned window with fixed lights, and a late 19th-century window featuring a reused 17th-century lintel with a four-pane casement.

On the upper floor, there are three windows: a tall former grain store entrance with a late 19th-century surround and eight-pane casements, and two small late 19th or early 20th-century casement windows with plain surrounds. The building has gable ends and two ridge stacks, along with lean-to extensions on the left and right sides. The interior of the house is said to contain a 17th-century inglenook, which is now concealed by a mid-20th-century fireplace.
