Description

A pair of semi-detached houses built in the 1840s by S Parker of Settle. They are constructed with a rendered facade, stone dressings, and a slate roof. Number 1 has a central staircase plan and is two storeys, three bays wide. The right-hand entrance has a plain surround, projecting impost block, and a plain lintel with a rectangular fanlight above a four-panel door. The ground floor windows have moulded bases to the jambs, projecting sills and shaped lintels, and contain six-pane sashes. The upper floor sill band is interrupted by the central staircase windows, which have a plain surround, projecting impost blocks and a round head with a pendant keystone and a fixed light with radiating glazing. The left and right-hand upper floor windows have plain surrounds, projecting sills and six-pane sashes. Projecting quoins mark the corners. A gable end ridge stack is on the left-hand side, and a central ridge stack is shared with Number 2. Number 2 is a mirror image of Number 1. Both houses are built into the hillside, resulting in a three-storey rear elevation, a similar arrangement to Sutcliffe Buildings in Settle.
