Description

This is a late 17th-century building, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and 19th century. It was originally part of an inn and is now a house. The building is constructed of squared rubble stone with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It follows a lobby entry plan and has two storeys and two bays. The left-hand entrance has a mid-18th-century eared architrave above a nine-panel door. A former central carriage entrance was partially blocked in the mid-18th century, and now contains a four-light flat-faced mullioned window with casements. The other ground floor windows are sashes with eight panes, with plain surrounds, except on the right-hand side. The upper floor windows include a central former four-light chamfered mullioned window that is now a two-light casement with only the King mullion remaining. There are three small windows blocked on the upper floor to either side of the central window and to the right of the ground floor central window. Timber hood moulds are present above all the windows, likely dating to the 19th century. The interior contains a mid-18th-century fireplace with a moulded surround, a two-piece segmental arched lintel, and a fluted imitation keystone. There are also remains of a left-hand salt or spice cupboard. It is believed to have begun as late 17th-century stables, which were converted in the mid-18th century into part of the inn, now Cravendale.
