Description
This is a mile post located approximately 100 metres east of the junction with Yearsley Road in Bransby-cum-Stearsby. It dates from the late 19th century and is made of cast iron, featuring a triangular shape. On the left side, there is a hand pointing left with the inscription 'HELMSLEY 9 MILES', while on the right side, a hand points right with 'YORK 14 MILES'. The top of the mile post reads 'BULMER WEST H.D.'. It is incorrectly marked as a milestone on the Ordnance Survey map and is positioned on the wrong side of the road for the directions, dating from after the Highways Act of 1888.
