Description

Library House is a building of the 19th century, built in the earlier middle of the century. It is located on Regent Parade and has three storeys and a basement. The double-fronted building has two window bays and a hipped roof covered in slate, with bracketed eaves. The exterior is of grit stone rubble. The second floor has segmental arched paired sash windows. The first floor has splayed bay windows with dentil cornices. The ground floor originally had a shopfront with pilasters that supported an entablature with projecting cornices; it is now altered, with modern splayed bay windows flanking a doorway. The building is included on the list for its group value, forming a grouping with numbers 1 to 3, 6 & 7, 9 to 13, 15 to 17, and 19, as well as 2A, 10A, and 11A.
