Description
This building is a stable, cart-shed, and hay loft range, now serving as an outbuilding, located 10 metres south-west of Dowgill Farmhouse. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and is constructed from coursed square gritstone with a stone slate roof. The structure has five bays and is built along a steep slope, enclosing the west side of a yard. It features quoins and a central segmental keyed arch that originally served as a cart entrance but has been reduced to a window. There are flanking board doors with quoined jambs, and windows with stone sills and lintels at the far left and right. The first floor has square openings with stone surrounds above the stable doors. The building also has shaped kneelers and gable copings. On the left side, there is an external flight of stone steps leading to a board door on the first floor, with a dog kennel beneath and long and short quoins. This building is included for its group value.
