Description

Carlton House is a house dated 1674, with later alterations, located on the north side of Carlton Husthwaite Village Street. The building is rendered and features a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays, with a 19th-century brick wing added to the rear left. The central entrance has a 20th-century part-glazed hardwood door set in an ashlar surround, which includes a moulded arris and a segmental-arched head with a projecting keystone. This keystone has sunken panels with raised characters '1674 B K' and is topped by an ogee cornice. The house has 20th-century 16-pane sash windows with projecting sills. The kneelers are of bolection section and have nailhead decoration, while the moulded ashlar coping also features a nailhead motif. Both the left and right returns of the house have large stepped external stacks, with the left stack being larger and having brick rebuilt portions at the top.
