Description

The statue of a shepherd with a pipe and its pedestal is located approximately 20 metres south-west of The Priory. It dates from the early 18th century and was restored around 1985 by Andrew Naylor, although the original sculptor is unknown. The statue is made of lead and stands on an ashlar pedestal. The overall height is about 2.70 metres, featuring a lifesize figure of a shepherd boy dressed in 18th-century clothing, with his legs crossed and holding a pipe. The pedestal is rectangular, with a moulded base and cornice, and the statue is not in its original position. This statue is part of a group of early 18th-century lead statues.
