Description
No. 42 Eastgate is an early to mid-19th century building that stands three storeys tall. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and has brick on the side. The roof is made of Welsh slate and features white brick end stacks. The façade includes three windows set in rusticated surrounds with lintels, and the windows are hung sashes with glazing bars. There is a band at the top of the cills and between the storeys, with a moulded detail between the ground and first floors. The ground floor features two canted bays with cornices. The entrance has a rusticated doorway with a flat lintel and a rectangular fanlight above a four-panel door. A stone band and eaves cornice complete the design, and there are two steps leading up to the entrance.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 42 to 47, 49 to 57, and 59 to 70, with Nos 50 to 52, 56, 57, 68, and 69 being of local interest.
