Well-Head At Aldfield Spa Approximately 700 Metres South West Of Druids Farm

The well-head at Aldfield Spa, located approximately 700 metres south west of Druids Farm, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a stone slab roof. The structure is rectangular in plan, measuring about 1 by 1.5 metres and standing 1 metre above the current ground level. There is an opening on the east side that is approximately 50 centimetres wide and 70 centimetres high, although the lintel and two jambstones are missing. Lead and iron fixings for a door are present on the left and right jambstones. The slab roof includes a capstone with ogee moulding. Additionally, on the east side, outside the entrance to the spa, there are buried remains of a retaining wall, which may have lined a short flight of steps or a paved approach.
