Description

The Church of St Cuthbert is a church built in 1827 by Woodhead and Hurst, located in Pateley Bridge. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate roof. The church has a west tower with north and south porches, a four-bay nave, and a chancel.

The tower consists of three stages and has offset angle buttresses that rise to the bell stage. It includes a plinth and triple chamfered bands between the stages. The west door is boarded and has an overlight set in a pointed arched, chamfered surround with a hoodmould. Above the door is a clock face in a diamond-shaped tablet. The tower has Y-tracery pointed windows on the north and south sides, and the belfry windows are three-light with intersecting tracery in pointed chamfered surrounds. The tower is topped with a moulded cornice and embattled parapets, featuring pinnacles at each corner.

The north and south porches each have a Y-traceried pointed window on the west side, with boarded doors in chamfered pointed arched surrounds facing south and north. The church has a stone eaves band, moulded coping to the flush parapets, and pinnacles at the corners.

The nave and chancel are supported by a plinth and have offset angle buttresses at the ends and between the windows. All windows in this section are three-light, set in chamfered pointed arched surrounds with intersecting tracery, while the east end window has four lights. The gable copings are moulded.

Inside, the east window is signed by "F Comere & J Capronnier, Glass Painters, Drawers and Inventors, Brussels 1893 Belgium."
