Description

Milestone located in Thornton in Lonsdale, dating from the late 19th century. It features a painted cast iron plate that is bolted onto a millstone grit back plate. The inscription reads: "LANCASTER & RICHMOND ROAD, THORNTON IN LONSDALE LANCASTER INGLETON 17 MILES 3/4 MILE HAWES 17 MILES RICHMOND 41 MILES."
