2/62 Kitchen garden walls approx 220 metres to west of Middleton Lodge

GV II

Walls to kitchen garden. Probably late C18. Red-brown brick in stretcher bond. Square plan, with lower wall on south-east side. 3 main sides approximately 4 metres high with slab coping. North-west wall was heated, is battered toward base, and has rubble single-storey lean-to bothy, boiler- house, and potting sheds, etc on outer side. In centre of north-west wall, blocked segmental-arched opening with board door in round-arched ashlar surround with imposts, and to its north 2 round-arched windows, one with Gothick glazing bars. Round-arched doorways at both ends of side walls.
