Description

The gateway at the ha-ha on the south drive to Middleton Lodge, likely built around 1780, is associated with the house and attributed to the architect John Carr for George Hartley. It features walls, railings, and gates made of ashlar and wrought iron. A low wall supports the railings that flank the gates, which are adorned with fleurs-de-lys finials on the bars and knob finials on the standards. The gates also display a guilloche motif on the mid rail.
