Description
Hope House is a house from the mid to late 18th century, constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings and a pantile roof. It has two storeys and three bays, featuring chamfered rusticated quoins. The central entrance has a 20th-century six-panel door set in an ashlar surround with a keystone above. The house is adorned with sash windows that have glazing bars and ashlar surrounds, which were previously fitted with external shutters on the ground floor. A cornice runs along the top, and there are shaped kneelers and ashlar copings. Brick stacks are located at each end of the building. To the right, there is a single-storey outbuilding that is not of special interest. During the peak of the copper-mining boom in Middleton Tyas, this building served as a public house known as the Miners' Arms. It was later divided into two separate houses.
