Description

The entrance gateway to Middleton Lodge, located on Kneeton Lane in Middleton Tyas, dates from around 1780 and is likely designed by John Carr for George Hartley. It features walls, railings, and gates made of ashlar and wrought iron. The flanking walls have a convex quadrant shape, with a plinth, moulded coping, and cylindrical terminal bollards. Low cross walls support the railings that flank the gates. The railings and gates are adorned with fleurs-de-lys finials on the bars and knob finials on the standards. The gates also display a guilloche motif on the mid-rail.
