Description

This is a garden wall located approximately 10 metres to the east of Beningbrough Hall, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with some parts rebuilt. It is constructed of thin orange brick in Flemish bond, with stone dressings. The wall is square in plan, featuring entrances in the north, west, and south walls that have later iron gates set under sandstone lintels. The walls are topped with flat ashlar coping and are ramped up to a taller north wall. The north wall, intended to be heated, has four later lean-to sheds on its north side, which include segmental brick-arched windows, stepped dentilled eaves, and hipped roofs. These sheds served as stoking houses, with flues leading into the wall. The garden wall connects to Beningbrough Hall via a wall in the same style that runs from the north-west corner of the garden wall to the east pavilion.
