Description

The stable-block, located to the north of the kitchen garden, is a building from the 18th century with 19th-century wings. Originally built for the Bourchiers and Dawnays of Beningbrough Hall, it is now used as an office and display area. The structure is made of brick, with the 18th-century section featuring Flemish garden wall bond and the 19th-century section in English garden wall bond, complemented by stone dressings and Westmorland slate roofs. The building is U-shaped and consists of two storeys with seven bays and three-bay cross wings.

The main range has a central three-bay section that projects forward, featuring a round-arched arcade with bevelled imposts, a band, and three windows above. This section is topped with a raised brick pediment that has a later oversailing band and cornice supported by paired brackets, with an oeil-de-boeuf in the tympanum and a cast-iron wind vane above. The central bays are flanked by six-panel doors with fanlights that include glazing bars. The outer bays have round-arched windows. All first-floor windows are six-pane sashes with segmental-brick arches and stone cills, and the building has stepped eaves and a hipped roof with ridge stacks. Each wing's gable end features a round-arched sash window with glazing bars, along with a segment-headed window above.

The inner returns of the wings each have two segmental-arched cart entries, with the left entry of the right wing now serving as a stable door. The wings also have a band and first-floor windows similar to those in the main range, along with stepped eaves and hipped roofs.
