Description
The ha-ha located to the west and south of Beningbrough Hall is a structure from the 18th century, with some late 19th-century additions and 20th-century repairs. The original 18th-century section is built of thin dark red brick in English bond, while the 19th-century work is made of red brick in English garden wall bond, featuring a top course of headers. The ha-ha curves around from the north-east corner of the hall buildings and along the south front, with a projecting curve in front of the hall that dates to the late 19th century, as indicated by Ordnance Survey maps from 1893 and 1907. At the western end of the southern portion, the wall is interrupted by steps leading up to a terrace, which is flanked by a coped wall and features a 19th-century gate that is not of special interest. This structure is included for its group value.
