Description
The garden wall to Hickling Hall dates from around 1700 and is constructed of brick and flint. It is roughly rectangular in shape and encloses the garden to the east of the hall, being attached to the house. The wall features a brick and flint plinth with brick quoins at the corners, and it is built in alternate courses of headers and whole flints. A pronounced cyma recta section brick moulded cornice leads up to a moulded brick coping with a top roll. The interior of the wall has leaning buttresses at intervals. Where the wall defines the forecourt of the house, it is faced with brick only on the west side. Mid-20th century gate piers and additional walling to the forecourt are not included in the listing.
