16/107 Bardsea Monument in grounds of Ulverston Golf Club

Monument. 1792. For W. Braddyll. Limestone rubble with some ashlar and brick. Triangular plan structure on round base has diagonal buttresses. Corbelled parapet with flat coping and finials, cupola with lantern. Each face has 4-centred relieving arch of ashlar and brick with round-headed niche containing urn, that to north-west missing, base inscribed: "POSUIT WB". Urns to other sides record Christopher Wilson and Sarah, John and Jane Gale, relations of William Braddyll; that to north-east also records erection of monument. A prominent landmark on the Furness peninsula.
