Description
Friends' Burial Ground is located to the north of High Sunbrick Farm and dates back to the first burial in 1648. The burial ground is enclosed by stone rubble walls that are approximately 2 meters high, forming a square area of 27 meters. The north wall features coping with upright stones, an entrance topped with a flat slab, and short walls extending to the south side, likely serving as a leant-to porch. There is a rock outcrop on the north side of the ground that bears an inscription from the 19th or 20th century, detailing its history. Between 1648 and 1767, a total of 227 members of the Society of Friends were buried here, including the notable Margaret Fox. She was a pioneer of the Society and married George Fox, its founder, in 1669. Margaret Fox passed away in 1702.
