Description

Low Sunbrick Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to 1655, with later additions and alterations. The initials I. & S.K. are carved on a reused panel on the rear of the lean-to, and the initials I.K., S. & E (or F) K are on the lintel above the front door, indicating a date of 1678. It is constructed of pebble-dashed rubble, with graduated slate roofs and stepped stone chimneys which project outwards. The building is arranged in an 'L' shape. The front elevation has two storeys and attic space, with three bays. A central 20th-century plank door sits within an enlarged 17th-century doorcase, featuring a dated lintel and hoodmould. 20th-century casement windows are located to either side of the door and above, and two gabled dormer windows have sash windows. A lean-to has been added to the left return. The rear of the property retains two 2-light, double-chamfered mullioned windows, and a partly blocked 17th-century doorcase with an embattled lintel, all protected by hoodmoulds. The interior features beamed ceilings to the ground floor rooms; one room has a moulded wooden cornice, and the other a bracketed fire surround with a corniced mantle. A corrugated iron garage adjoining the rear wing is not considered to be of historical interest.
