Description
Town Head Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are a farmhouse and barn complex. The house is dated 1705, featuring the initials G. P. and E. P. on a lintel above the porch. The house was extended, and the barn was added later in the 18th century, with further additions and alterations made over time. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with quoins, while the farmyard elevation is pebble-dashed and the other elevation is colour-washed. The roofs are covered with graduated slate.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a total of four bays, arranged as three bays on the left and one bay on the right. The farmyard elevation, which was originally the rear of the house, features a central wing with a part-glazed inner door leading to the porch on the left and a 20th-century lean-to outbuilding on the right. There are small casement windows on each floor of the wing on the left-hand return. The original front of the house has a 20th-century casement window in its original surround, a blocked mullioned window, a 19th-century sash window, and another 19th-century casement window, all with glazing bars. A continuous hoodmould runs above the two right-hand bays, and there are three 20th-century casements above.
The single-bay barn has a segment-headed plank wagon door facing the farmyard, with an outshut to the right and a small door at the rear. There is a rendered mid-chimney and a capped, corbelled end chimney on the wing. The taller barn and the 20th-century outbuildings adjoining are not of interest.
