Description
Thornship Farmhouse and the adjoining byre at the south end date back to the 1760s, as indicated by a date on the fireplace, though there have been later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and the house is lime-washed. It features graduated slate roofs with stone ridges. The layout follows a cross-passage plan, with the house extended into a panelled range at the rear.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of seven bays in total. The four-bay house has a plank cross-passage door, with three segment-headed windows on the right side of each floor. The top right-hand window is a casement, while the others are fixed, all featuring glazing bars. There is a blocked opening above the door. The byre has a plank door and a window to the right, with a loft door located above it. The house is topped with corniced, stepped stone end chimneys. A corrugated-iron lean-to shed situated in the angle between the byre and the barn is not of interest.
