Description
Green House with pavilions, located off the west side of Main Street in Shap, is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of rendered rubble. The main house features a 20th-century concrete-tiled roof, while the north pavilion has a flat roof and the south pavilion has a hipped roof, which is partly covered with graduated slate and partly with corrugated iron.
The main house is symmetrical, comprising two storeys and three bays. It has a central recessed panelled door set within a semicircular-headed surround, flanked by 16-pane sash windows on either side and three above. There is a band between the floors and rendered end chimneys. The north pavilion includes a central recess, which may have originally contained a door or window that is now blocked. The entrance to the south pavilion is located in a lean-to that is set back on the south return, and there is a small plank loft door in front.
