Description
The bridge over the River Lyvennet, located to the south of Crossrigg Hall, is a cast-iron structure dated 1835. It features rusticated abutments and low parapet walls at both ends. The bridge has a false four-centred arch with pierced spandrels, and a round plaque on the center of the north side that reads "CARLISLE 1835." Transverse wooden beams support the earth roadbed, which is 10 feet wide. The parapets have segmental copings and spiral curtails, and cast-iron railings on top of the parapets and along both sides of the bridge are made up of panels. These railings include reeded fleurs-de-lis standards on two levels, separated by fluted colonettes with urn finials. Each side of the bridge has single narrow panels with semicircular heads and pierced geometric patterns at their centers and ends. There are wrought-iron gates at the east end of the bridge that date from the 20th century. The bridge also crosses the parish boundary between Bolton and Morland.
