Description
The dovecote and pigsties located to the south-east of Crossrigg Hall were built around 1830. This two-storey dovecote is accompanied by single-storey pigsties, which together form the south and west sides of a courtyard at the rear of the former house. The structure is made of coursed, squared rubble with quoins and features a band between the floors of the dovecote. The pigsties have a hipped roof covered with graduated slate, while the dovecote is topped with a pyramidal graduated slate roof that includes bird openings on the sides of a central turret. This turret is adorned with an ogee lead dome and a weathercock. There are six plank doors, five of which have segmental heads, leading into the courtyard. The south side of the dovecote has two small sash windows set in semicircular-headed architraves. Each face of the dovecote features a small circular opening just below the eaves, decorated with radiating tracery.
