Description
Rowan Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations from the early 18th century and the 19th century. It has coursed red sandstone rubble walls, flush quoins, and a moulded eaves cornice. The roof is made of corrugated iron, which has replaced the original thatch, and there are red sandstone chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. There is an off-centre panelled door set in a 19th-century stone surround. The windows are two-light flat stone-mullioned, with those to the right of the entrance having been enlarged, while the upper floor windows still feature flat mullions. There are blocked fire windows on the right side, while those on the left remain open. At the rear, there is an outshut.
