Description
The Coach House, The Hayloft, and garages beneath were originally built as a coach house and stables for Salkeld Hall, likely in 1836 for the Hodgson family, with some 20th-century alterations. The building features dressed red sandstone walls with V-jointed quoins and is topped with a graduated greenslate roof that has candlestick chimney stacks.
The central part of the structure has a 2 1/2-storey pedimented archway. To the left is a 3-bay coach house with a flat above, and to the right is a 4-bay former stable area with The Hayloft flat above. The central round-headed through archway is situated beneath a sash window with glazing bars and a round-headed attic window. The left coach house section has a round-headed carriage arch, currently used as a garage, along with sash windows that also have glazing bars. The stables feature doorways and sash windows, some of which have 20th-century surrounds that match the original design. The building is listed for its group value with Salkeld Hall.
