Description

High Dykes is a farmhouse with an adjoining barn, dated and inscribed on a wall panel as JW A.D.1772. The farmhouse is constructed from squared blocks of red sandstone with flush quoins, and has a graduated greenslate roof with red sandstone chimney stacks. It is two storeys high, with two bays. The barn, with two bays, is built under a common roof. A central boarded door is set within a rusticated surround. Flanking the door are three-light flat stone-mullioned windows, which are set under sash windows with glazing bars in painted stone surrounds. The barn has two doorways with stone surrounds, one of which has been blocked to create a casement window. A central loft doorway, also with a stone surround, is located above. A right-hand 20th-century garage extension is not of architectural interest.
