Description
Low Plains is an early 19th-century farmhouse located in Calthwaite, Lazonby. The building features painted incised stucco with painted V-jointed quoins set on a chamfered plinth. It has a graduated greenslate roof with cement rendered chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a two-storey, single-bay wing on the left and a two-storey, two-bay wing at the rear.
There are semicircular steps leading up to a top-glazed panelled door, which is sheltered by a prostyle Ionic porch supported by fluted columns and adorned with an enriched frieze. The windows are sash style, framed in painted stone architraves, and there are false windows of a similar design in the left wing. The return walls feature round-arched attic windows. The rear wing appears to be from the 18th century and includes a plank door and sash windows within painted stone surrounds.
