Description

Watson Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse with painted stucco walls featuring a string course, eaves cornice, and V-jointed quoins set on a chamfered plinth. The roof is made of graduated greenslate with coped gables and kneelers, and there are banded sandstone chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and two bays, with lower lean-to wings, the right one extending at the rear.

The house features sash windows with glazing bars that intersect in round heads, while the right side includes Venetian windows, all set in stone surrounds. The wings have 20th-century doors in alternate-block surrounds with keyed lintels; the left door is positioned under a sash window, and the right one is under a smaller casement window. The right return wall has a large 20th-century door in a segmental arch of alternate blocks, along with 20th-century casement windows in 19th-century stone surrounds.

Inside, the farmhouse boasts exceptional quality, with oak panelled doors and architraves throughout, as well as oak turned stair balusters. The principal room features a stone heck post and a panelled fire beam with cupboards built into the inner face, along with good spice and salt cupboards. There is a corner dresser and delft rack with a moulded cornice, all built in. The staircase leads to a squint to the kitchen, and there is a curved slopstone in the former dairy. Ground-floor windows have panelled shutters.
