Description
The kitchen garden perimeter wall at Home Farm dates from around 1877 and is likely the work of the architectural firm Paley and Austin, who also designed Home Farmhouse. The wall is constructed from squared rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings, and much of the inner face is made of brick. It surrounds a rectangular garden on the south side of Home Farm, with the north wall attached to the farmhouse and its cart shed. The south wall features a curved, central projection. The wall varies in height from approximately 2 to 3 meters, depending on the ground levels, and includes buttresses with offsets on the external face. The north wall has two doorways to the left of Home Farmhouse that are topped with pointed arches and features slab copings. To the right of the cart shed, the wall is more elaborate, featuring a chamfered plinth, chamfered copings, and a pointed-arched doorway with a parapet above.
