Description
Townend Farmhouse and the adjoining barn date from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The farmhouse features mixed limestone rubble walls with painted render, and it has a graduated greenslate roof, with a slight hip in the center due to a higher rear extension. The chimney stacks are banded limestone. The barn also has a graduated greenslate roof that is hipped to the left.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a right-angled two-bay rear extension and a lower left four-bay barn. The house has a central large 20th-century conservatory or porch over a 20th-century door set in a painted stone surround. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are framed in painted stone surrounds. The extension also features sash windows in painted stone surrounds. The barn includes 20th-century casement windows arranged in two groups of two, positioned under slit vents. There is a left plank door beyond a small pent extension, with a loft opening above. Further left extensions to the barn are not of interest.
