Description
This is a 17th-century farmhouse with a byre attached to its east side, though the ground floor of the house may be older. A 19th-century date of 1670 is inscribed on the lintel of the byre door, along with the initials H.E. & H.E. The house has undergone 19th-century additions and alterations, including the construction of a loft over the byre. The ground floor of the house is built of stone blocks, while the upper floor and byre are built of coursed squared rubble with quoins. It has Welsh slate roofs with stone-flagged eaves. A rear wing is present. The design was possibly originally based on a cross-passage plan. The two-storey house has four bays. A plank door is set in a 19th-century surround, alongside a sash window to the left, and two casements and a small fire window to the right. Three sashes are located above, with a blocked single-light window above the door. All windows retain their original chamfered surrounds, although the original two-light windows have had their mullions removed. Hood moulds with labels are present above the door and main ground-floor windows. Stone copings and kneelers are visible, along with stone end chimneys. The three-bay byre has a plank door on the left, in a chamfered surround with a dated lintel under a hoodmould; stone steps lead up from the south-east corner to a central plank loft door.
