Description

The signal box and attached walling at Askam in Furness Railway Station date from the late 19th century. They are constructed from red sandstone rubble, with the signal box featuring part-glazed and part-timbered sections and a slate roof adorned with terracotta cresting. The walls enclose the south-west end of the platform, with the signal box positioned at the angle. The wall has chamfered coping. The signal box is a single storey with a basement, which includes three basement windows on the platform side. The box has a glazed section with a cross-timbered panel on the east side, a north-facing door accessed by external steps, and an external corbelled stack on the west side, topped with a hipped roof. These structures are part of a group with other station buildings.
