Description
Anvil House is a house built in the early 19th century, with a rear wing dating from the early 18th century. It features pebble-dashed stone and a graduated slate roof. The building has two storeys and a three-bay front, with a lower wing extending to the rear left. The central entrance has a part-glazed, six-panel door set in a basket-arched ashlar surround, complete with a cornice on shaped brackets. On either side of the door are sash windows with glazing bars, raised surrounds, projecting sills, and wedge lintels. The first floor has matching windows beneath an ogee gutter supported by four blocks, with end stacks.
Inside, there is an original early 19th-century staircase with turned newels and a curved pine handrail, along with panelled window shutters. The ceiling of the rear wing features large scantling oak beams. A datestone inscribed with the year 1707, which is believed to have come from the house, is now located over the rear gate.
