Description
Marton Hall and the attached farm buildings are a farmhouse and farm structures dating from the mid-18th century, with some alterations. They are constructed of roughcast stone and feature graduated green slate roofs. The house is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays, forming one side of a U-shaped range. The entrance has two steps leading up to a uPVC door, which is sheltered by a slate canopy. The flanking windows are uPVC casements set in raised surrounds with cambered heads. The first floor has three square-headed windows with similar glazing. The house has stepped end stacks, and there is a blind wall to the west that marks the end of the barn. At the rear of the house, within an open courtyard, the barn features two doors and a large double door. The return limb of the farm buildings includes a doorway on each floor. Inside, the staircase has oak newel posts and a moulded handrail, and there are four two-panel doors with original latches and strap hinges on the first floor. The principal-rafter trusses have high collars, while the farm buildings have been re-roofed with pattern-book king-post trusses. The farm buildings are included in the listing primarily for their group value with the house.
