Description
This is a shopping arcade located on a sloping site, built in 1803 for butchers, with later additions and alterations. The structure is made of slobbered rubble and features wooden shop fronts that are separated by horizontal planking. A graduated slate canopy, which includes glazed sections, extends along the length of the shop fronts. The main roof is not visible. The building has two storeys, with a door for number 2 and four shop fronts, which are now combined for numbers 2 to 6. The doors for numbers 2 and 4 are made of planks, while the other shop fronts are part-glazed, all except number 2 having a window to the right. The windows are primarily plate-glass, except for number 8, which is subdivided, and number 10, which features a sash with glazing bars. There are horizontally-planked kicking boards and a glazed fascia for all shop fronts except number 10. The first floor includes one blocked window, two fixed windows, and two trompe l'oeil windows.
