Description
The Garth is a house built in the late 18th century, constructed from pink sandstone ashlar. It features a string course and rusticated angle pilasters, topped with a graduated greenslate roof and ashlar chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a two-bay extension on the lower right. The central entrance consists of a panelled door and overlight, framed by a pilastered surround and topped with a pediment that displays the Howard coat-of-arms. The windows are 20th-century plastic casements with glazing bars set within stone architraves. The extension has similar windows, one of which is located in a blocked doorway. This house served as the agent's residence for the Greystoke estate. The rear barn has been altered in the 20th century and is not of interest.
