Description
Nos 17, 19, and 21, along with the entrance to New Shambles, are shops with a meeting room above, which is now also used as a shop. They date from the late 18th century to early 19th century and have seen later additions and alterations. The exterior features incised stucco and a graduated slate roof, with a stone chimney at the west end. The building is two storeys high and has five bays.
The shop fronts, which are from the 19th century, are corniced and made of wood, with reeded pilasters. To the right of the large sash shop window is a part-glazed door, while the second shop has a part-glazed door and a plate-glass window to the left. There is a 20th-century glazed door at the far right, and the entrance to New Shambles is located at the far left, featuring plank cellar doors on the west side in the passage. On the first floor, there is a tall tripartite sash window with two sashes on either side, all with glazing bars set within architraves.
