Description
Hartley Fold House, along with its area railings, adjoining cottage, and stables, is a late 18th-century building. The house features a wet-dashed exterior with rusticated quoins, while the cottage and stables are constructed from snecked rubble. The roofs are covered with graduated slates, with the house having a higher roof, both topped with stone copings and kneelers, and brick chimneys.
The house has a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay front with a central panelled door and a traceried fanlight set in a Tuscan doorcase, which is adorned with a bracketed semicircular canopy. The windows are sashes, all framed in architraves. The low area walls are rendered and have chamfered copings, with square gate and end piers topped with pyramidal caps. The wrought-iron railings have pointed standards.
The adjoining two-storey, three-bay cottage features a central plank door within a stop-chamfered surround. To the left, there is a triple sash window, a single sash window to the right, and three more sash windows above, all set in stone surrounds. The original wide stable door is now partially blocked, and there is a small hay-loft access to the first floor on the right. A barn range adjoining the north of the stables is not included in this listing.
