Description
Tarn Side is a house that has undergone more than one phase of construction, with a date of 1719 marked by the initials WB and BB on a panel above the door, and another date of 1764 with the initials RB and IB on a second panel. It may include earlier work and has seen later additions and alterations. The building is made of wet dashed rubble and features graduated slate roofs with rendered end chimneys. It stands two storeys high and has seven bays arranged in a 4:3 configuration.
At the time of the survey in 1986, the property was subdivided but remained under the same ownership. The four-bay section on the left has a plank door with a slate datestone from 1719 above it, flanked by two windows on the left, one on the right, and four on the first floor. The three-bay section on the right has a part-glazed door with a cornice supported by consoles, a window to the right, and two on the first floor. A 1764 dated panel is centrally located between the floors, and there is a cavetto eaves cornice. The four-bay house is said to retain a 1635 court cupboard, along with stop-chamfered beams and an inglenook in the kitchen.
